Convert an old pontoon to a floating dock

24' pontoon base
20' deck

Finished product materials:
10 - 2X4X10 pressure treated boards as furring strips
62 - 2X6X8 pressure treated deck boards
Base being delivered

Removing the old marine plywood deck material.

Moved to the water to build because of weight on land would have been too heavy.  Took 4 people to move it down to the water.

2X4X10 being screwed into metal frame with sheet metal screws

62 2X6X8 Deck boards screwed in with 2 1/2" deck screws

Decking in place

    how much weight do you think the wood deck is? can you post a pic of how the toons sit in the water with the deck on it?

  2. Do you remove the dock in winter due to freezing? If so how does the trailer handle the extra weight from wood? We are planning converting a pontoon to floating dock, but have to trailer it to remove for winter.

  3. Lollks nice, but why wouldn't you just put plywood back on to save on weight and money?
